Predatex Silk tells u something about silk fabrics

People always think silk is just a kind of satin style. In fact, there are a lot more items other than satin charmeuse. Such as crepe de chine, georgette, burn out, double georgette and etc.
No matter how many styles are there for silk fabrics, some common senses are uniform!
The silk has great reputation of "fabric Queen", "healthy fiber", "health fiber". Silk, belonging to protein fiber, which contains 18 kinds of amino acids necessary for human body so it can help the skin maintain the surface lipid metabolism. Wearing silk clothes, not only can prevent ultraviolet radiation, harmful gas into defense, resistance to harmful bacteria, but also enhance the surface activity of skin cells.

In addition, due to the special moisture absorption and permeability, silk fabric has temperature regulation and water regulation function. The medical workers select 30 skin itching patients treated by wearing only silk fabrics. The results show that the simple use of real silk fabrics can get better curative effect, without the use of topical drugs. After a long time the patient had completely bedridden bedsore.
Function and maintenance method of real silk fabric

Silk can also protect the skin from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. Silkworm spit of white silk, will gradually turn yellow under ultraviolet light, the reason is the silk absorbs the sun's ultraviolet rays. Medical common sense tells people, too much ultraviolet radiation on human skin is extremely harmful, therefore the use of silk fiber absorption performance of the ultraviolet UV Defense can reach the purpose.
Silk is a kind of very good, very practical material, so everyone in the life must grasp the silk maintenance tips, avoid improper maintenance.
The following small tips suggested by Predatex Silk to introduce some related maintenance methods,
1 washing under 30 degrees and must in hand washing. If you use a few drops of vinegar and water soak, then you can wash out the silk clothes soft and smooth.
2 no alkaline detergent and soap washing! After washing you should choose dry ventilated place so to avoid damaging handfeeling and color;
3 sweat wet silk clothes to be washed immediately;
4 don't hang the silk clothes on the hard metal hook to prevent the silk surface fm damage;
5 when not wearing, do not put mothballs, otherwise embrittlement happens easily;
6 ironing temperature at 100 degrees is appropriate and best.

Would you like digital printing silk fabrics or screen printed silk fabrics ---By Lynn at Predatex Silk

When customers are buying silk fabric in prints, they are curious about how the prints are made and wonder whether they could print on their own designs.

The answer is surely yes for Predatex Silk Co., Ltd. as we are specialized in producing all kinds of silk fabrics including printing fabrics. Then I would like to introduce you two basic printing ways for our silk items, the digitalprinting and the screen printing.

Firstly, using what kind of printing method depends on your design itself.
When screen printings are most widely and traditionally used because of its cost saving performance and bulk cargo production availability, it has deadly weakness due to its color limitation! Normally the colors of one design should not be too much otherwise the printing machine will not be able to manage. To achieve complex and fruitful color, you have to use digital printings, which required nothing on the color. All designs, no matter how complex it would be, digital prints would always manage!

Secondly, there is no MOQ for digital printings while screen printing would normally require a MOQ of about 200 to 300mtrs.
 The reason is that digital prints can be made directly on a piece of silk fabrics like printing a A4 paper, while for screen printings, you need to engrave first for the design and print only afterwards. If you would like to have a design of only a few dozen meters per design, it will save cost a lot compared to screen printings.

Thirdly, the cost and price are different!
The digital cost is purely counting on how many meters you are preparing to print. The cost would be around USD5.00-USD7.00/meter.(For better price or discount, please kindly contact Predatex Silk directly in private! www.predatextile.com)
The cost for screen printing includes two parts, the engraving cost and the printing cost. The engraving cost would be about USD50/color in one design. However the printing cost is about USD1.00-USD2.00/meter, much cheaper than digital prints!
So, if you would like to run a design in several hundred/thousand meters, the most efficient and cost saving way would be screen.

Why designers choose pure silk fabrics for wedding gowns ---By Lynn at Predatex Silk

Many customers of Predatex Silk are wedding gown brands from all round the world!
Why silk fabric, you might come up with such a questions!
"Luxurious" is the first word that came into my brain. It is almost certain that the most important gown a female would ever wear or buy would always be the one for the Special day! (Or might say some would get married for many time....In this case, Let's take her first wedding as example because most of them haven't thought they would have the chance to wear another!)   Since it is so important and special, the bride definitely need a luxurious wedding gown to make sure that day she is the most stunning one in the world and most stunning time ever in her lifetime. What is the most luxurious fabric to make the gown? Nothing but high quality silk fabrics!

"White and clean" came right after! When you picture a wedding gown in your mind, I bet it is some white lace and silk gown... Why and how? Have you ever tried getting to know how the wedding gown become such certain combination in your mind? Is it some tradition that has been for long time? NO! It was started in year 1840, the year Britain launched the First Opium War against China when China's silk fabrics were such a precious then in European Land.(If interest, you could get to know more about it on wiki, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Opium_War) What else happened that year? The queen Victoria got married with a gorgeous white wedding gown in lace and silk! I will let wiki to introduce for me about it again as I guess it describes better than what a Chinese Silk supplier do... The link is as following, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_wedding
After that specific wedding, the lace and silk gown has become a fashion ever after till today!  The white and clean dress do match the best for a new bride waiting to start a long last marriage with the one she love!

The differences of Silk Satin Charmeuse Fabric and Silk Crepe de Chine in my view ---By Lynn at Predatex Silk

Silk  Satin Charmeuse and Silk Crepe de Chine are supposed to be among the basic items that our customers are using, especially as fundamental material for top class wedding gown or evening dresses!

As far as we could think about, the main differences are as following,
1. Silk Satin Charmeuse is slick and shiny in one side, while the other side is a little creped. So you can easily tell which is the front side and what is the back.  While for Silk Crepe de Chine, both sides of it are crepe like sand due to the yarns(both warp and weft) that it was formed are highly twisted!

2. There was one customer who had made an interesting metaphor on Silk Satin Charmeuse,which I quote as following," if you take silk fabric as beautiful women, Silk Satin Charmeuse much have been the most sexy one among them!" That I would not argue on at all when Charmeuse is so stunning, smooth and boneless! Even if silk fabrics have always been oriented and produced in China, the name of Charmeuse was from French, a country surely know more about sexy and romantic.
As a traditional Chinese, however, I do think Silk Crepe de Chine has been even more appeal to us. If I was to make another metaphor like my customer did, Crepe de Chine would be the most elegant woman. It is not as shiny, not as transparent, not as smooth, but it drapes well and it is much more durable than Charmeuse is! When you look deeper and more careful on Crepe de Chine, it is as sparkle as pearl!

3. Silk Satin Charmeuse crinkles much easier than Crepe de Chine, which mean it is more fragile and deserves more delicate care.

Anyway, There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes! Whether Silk Satin Charmeuse is better or Crepe de Chine is depends on your own. Many of own wedding gown brand customers love them greatly especially on the heavy version in 19mm to 40mm! After sewing up into a finished wedding gown by the designers, what presented woulld be a gorgeous masterpiece right for "THE DAY"!

How much is silk fabric per meter?
---By Lynn at Predatex Silk
Many people are very curious on how much they should pay for silk fabric when they are fascinated by the beauty and smooth handfeel of them!

Firstly, I would like to introduce you the process of how silk fabrics are made. As you might have known, the silk yarn are made of protein as they are spit out by silkworms.
Raising silkworms would be a huge program as you have to keep continuous stable temperature and sufficient fresh mulberry leaves! And one silkworm cocoon contains only about 2grams silk and including the glues which would be removed in further processes.  After you have collected hundreds and thousands of cocoons, you start to boil them and reel off silk yarns out them one by one. Of course, nowadays Predatex Silk factory use machines to handle all the processes to save many time. After you get silk yarn ready, you start weaving, further boiling off, coloring or printing same as all the other fabrics.

To review all the processes, the silkworm raising and cocoon are proven to be essential part of silk fabric production and the silk yarn itself are so precious and surely be the most expensive part of silk fabrics. So how much silk yarn used matters a great deal on the final price of silk fabrics.

After all the explanations above made, herewith Predatex Silk would give a further introduction on how much silk fabrics cost per meter.

However, before that I would like to introduce you the unit we measure the weight of silk fabrics, that is "mm"(in short of "momme")!  In fact it is more a measurement for thickness of silk fabrics, but since the silks have certain fixed density it can as well be a measurement for weight.  We normally use to following translation equation: 1mm(momme)= 4.3056grams/squared meters.   The lightest silk fabrics Preda Silk have been running is 3.5mm which is about 15gram per squared meters! That is extremely thin!  And for normal chiffon, the comment weight is 6mm(25.8gsm) or 8mm(32.3gsm). For Satin Charmeuse, the weight is 16mm(64.5gsm) or 19mm(82gsm).

Another issue matters for the price of silk fabrics is the width! Unlike the width of 56"/57"(146cm) for other fabrics, silk fabrics have the width of 45"(114cm) or 55"(140cm). Predatex Silk provide both width choices for you in case you need certain width.

Silk Duchess----www.predatextile.com

The finest silk fibers, and most of what we use today, are produced by "cultivated" silkworms grown in a controlled environment. The worms are fed a diet of mulberry leaves and increase their body size 10,000 times in their short life span. Once the cocoon is spun and before the worm hatches through the silk into a moth, the cocoon is soaked in hot water then unraveled, producing filaments that can be up to a mile long in size. The raw silk is then processed to remove the sericin - the natural "gum" that protects the fibers and causes them to stick to each other as the cocoon was spun. Silk is a protein fiber, similar to wool or to human hair. It is only natural for silks to have some irregularities – sometimes called "slubs". This is the nature of the 100% silk fabric. Silk that has been processed can be woven or knit into a variety of fabrics. Silk will shrink, so if you are using it to construct clothing, be sure to preshrink it. Silk often has a wonderful feel, (referred to as a "hand"), and an almost iridescent sheen that makes us think of luxury. The weight of silk is shown as "mm" – pronounced "mommy" – and varies within the different types of silk.
The extra weight of duchess satin, as compared to regular satin fabric, lends itself to beading and embroidery, while the synthetic component allows the fabric to be machine washed, and provides an extra level of durability. The heavy weight of the fabric lends itself to work well with crinolines and petticoats, holding its shape while disguising the underpinnings. Duchess satin is used extensively for bridal wear and corresponding accessories, due to its pearly sheen and structural stability. It is currently the most common fabric used for bridal gowns. It has a very luxurious hand, and a great deal of body to help to create intricate designs in the fabric. The extreme luster gives a dramatic effect to pleats and folds in the fabric. The wrinkle-resistant material is also ideal for evening wear and lingerie.

Silk Chiffon, charmeuse and shantung have you in a swirl?

Silk Chiffon, charmeuse and shantung have you in a swirl?
Chiffon, charmeuse and shantung have you in a swirl?Navigating bridesmaid dress fabrications can seem daunting, especially yourfirst time. What exactly is peau de soie and for god’s sake what will it feellike? Here I present a tutorial in bridesmaid dress fabrics and finishes—it’sall you need to know to help you choose which finish is right for the stylesyou like or the type of event you’re planning.
First of all, there’s a difference between a fabric and afinish. Fabrics are cotton, silk, nylon, rayon or polyester, to name a few.Finishes are terms like chiffon, taffeta, and satin. It’s important to know thedifference. Most people are more familiar with fabric than finish, so we’llcover finishes here. If a dress is listed as “satin,” this does not mean it ismade of silk. Synthetic fibers like polyester and rayon can easily take on asatin finish, so be sure to check closely before making a decision.
It’s also important to note that while the descriptionsbelow give a general idea of each finish, the characteristics of the fabric canvary greatly based on the quality of fabric the retailer uses. Some satins willfeel much smoother than others, just as some taffeta will be stiffer. That’swhy it’s important to feel the fabric yourself before committing. Request aswatch to make sure it looks and feels the way you think (and hope) it will.

Chiffon is very lightweight and flowing, meaning that itdoes not cling to the body and is very good for styles with a lot of draping,like dresses with empire waists. It can be a bit sheer, so you will often findit draped in multiple layers. Chiffon is a nice fabric for muted colors andpastels because it does not have a distinct sheen, allowing delicate colorscome through. It can be found in regular or “crinkle” chiffon, meaning that thefabric will have a subtle accordion pleat. Chiffon is ideal for outdoor ordaytime weddings, as its light weight will keep girls cool.

Georgette is quite similarto chiffon in drape and feel. It is only slightly heavier than chiffon and abit less sheer. It is ideal for outdoor or daytime weddings, as its lightweight will keep girls cool.
Voile has the draping powerof chiffon, but with a subtle sheen and a bit more weight. It is most oftenapplied to cottons or cotton blends, resulting in a lightweight, breathablefabric. It tends to have a sort of luminosity to it and is a bit sheer. It alsohas quite a bit more structure than a chiffon, making it good for full orA-line skirts. It is ideal for outdoor or daytime weddings and can appear a bitmore casual than other fabrications.

When we think of silk, thetexture we normally envision is satin. In reality, silk can be rendered inalmost any finish, but the adjective “silky” describes it in satin form. It issmooth and soft to the touch, and usually quite lightweight, though the degreeof softness will vary across retailers. It tends to drape with the body, meaningit’s good for form-fitting styles, and it has a lot of movement (think twirlingon the dance floor). Most satin has a subtle sheen, meaning it will catch thelight slightly. Satin is best for formal or nighttime weddings. It should beavoided for events that will be held in high heat, as it shows sweat easily.
A cousin to satin,charmeuse has the same sheen and drape as satin, but is lighter and even a bitsofter. Its sheen is a bit more muted and its drape a bit more liquid. It isbest for formal or nighttime weddings. It should be avoided for events thatwill be held in high heat, as it shows sweat easily.

Also known as DuchessSatin. As its second name implies, peau de soie is similar to satin, but morestructured. It has the medium weight and smooth feel of satin, but a bit morestiffness, which lends it to being used in a wide variety of styles. It is alsomuch less shiny than satin or charmeuse, bordering on matte. It is best forformal or nighttime weddings. It should be avoided for events that will be heldin high heat, as it shows sweat easily.

This stiffer, blended fabrichas a heavier weight, making it an ideal choice for structured dresses. It hasa slight sheen, similar to peau de soie, but also a subtle texture. Mikadois commonly thought of as a winter fabric.

Dupioni tends to be stiffand hold its shape, making it good for dresses with a bit of volume or withstructural pleats. However, this means that it’s difficult to alter the shapeof the dress, even with ironing, so if it poofs in places you don’t want it topoof, it’s going to stay that way. It is made from raw fibers, which results ina bit of a grain in the fabric that looks like tiny textural horizontal lines.It also feels a bit rough to the touch because of the raw fibers, but it holdsvibrant colors very well. Dupioni has a strong sheen, which can really make acolor pop. In my opinion this fabric tends to look better in photographs thanit does in real life. It is versatile enough to work for day or night weddings,but does tend to look more formal.

Taffeta is very similar todupioni in weight and structure. The fabric is crisp and a bit weighty andholds its shape very well. However, the major difference between these twofinishes is in the appearance and feel of the fabric. While dupioni appearstextured, taffeta is very smooth and more tightly woven. Taffeta’s sheen willdepend very much on the lighting. In dim or natural lighting, the material canappear almost matte, but in bright or studio lighting (like your photographermay use) the fabric can come off quite shiny. It is versatile enough to workfor day or night weddings, but does tend to look more formal.
Like dupioni and taffeta,faille holds its shape well, making it good for dresses with a bit of volume orwith structural pleats. However, this means that it’s difficult to alter theshape of the dress, even with ironing, so if it poofs in places you don’t wantit to poof, it’s going to stay that way. It has a much subtler sheen than bothdupioni and taffeta, but still has texture—in this case, a subtle ribbedquality. This finish can be applied to many fabrics, from  silk andcotton to rayon and viscose, so it’s a good idea to request a swatch to get theexact feeling of the dress. It is versatile enough to work for day ornight weddings, and its subtle sheen makes it almost seasonless.
I think of shantung as kind of a midway between dupioni andtaffeta. It has the same crisp, structured feeling and heft as both fabrics. Itis not as finely woven as taffeta, but has less texture than dupioni. It isversatile enough to work for day or night weddings, but does tend to look moreformal.
